...WHO IS RUBEN RETAMAL AND WHAT DOES HE DO???


Hello everyone: the interview that I did was about my brother in law. His name is Ruben Retamal, he is a Soldier and actually he works in Osorno city. On march, Ruben went to Bosnia for six months. The reason to be there was a mission's work and he returned to Chilito on September 18. So there was when I asked him the following questions:
1. What is your occupation?
I am a Public Employee, specifically I am an Infantry Instructor in the Army of Chile.
2. When and why did you decide to become a Soldier?
On 1993, when I was a volunteer soldier. I decided to be a soldier because I have always liked challenges.
3. Have you ever been in other countries? Wich ones?
Yes I have, twice. In 2004, I was in Haiti for six months and in 2008 I was in Bosnia - Herzegovina for six months too.
4. What aspects of the culture in Haiti made an impact on you?
Maybe, the fact that they still practice Vudu.
5. How was your experience in a different culture?
The experience in Haiti was sad because I saw people in very poor conditions. They did not have any expectations from the future.
6. Would you come back to Haiti?
Yes I would. I think I could help other people again and again.
7. Do you think that your life has changed after Haiti?
Yes I do. Today I love more my family and my country.
8. Why did you decide to go to Bosnia?
Because, I have always needed to help others. I also wanted to live new experiences.
9. What is the most important cultural difference between European and Chilean people?
In few words...the centuries of History.
10. Did you tell me that on your vacations you vivited other countries, wich one did you like the most and why?
France is a nice country, very beautiful and romantic.
